Drive-in and Drive Through: Leveraging Space

We observed the logistics centers face a true transformation in the form of consumption and adapt their spaces to adapt to changes. The same happened with retail, which needed to restructure environments to accommodate the needs of customers up to date.
As a result, the demand for better organized and even larger spaces grew dramatically. However, this is an almost impossible possibility for anyone who works with specific lengths in their logistics center.
Therefore, with the emergence of this solution, there was an improvement in the way products are stored and moved inside the warehouses, emerging a growing trend and crediting the optimization of vertical spaces as a positive alternative for different sectors.
Drive-in and Drive Through were two of these structures developed especially for companies that work with large volumes of products marked with an extended expiration date. With this, they manage to improve the use of the available vertical space and enable a strategic organization.
How they can optimize space and storage area
It is important to understand that both Drive-in and Drive Through are compact deep storage systems ideal for palletized products. In this way, they can ensure that items are kept on top of each other in a coordinated manner, protecting products and maintaining organization.
Companies that work with large volumes of the same item, entry and exit of a high number of products and a small variety of SKUs can benefit directly, especially in Warehousing and Dispatch operations by batches. This happens because both have a specific way of operating that avoids the disorderly removal of products, always prioritizing an organized operation.
The Drive-in operates in the storage of products through the LIFO system, last in first out , that is, the last product to enter is the first to leave. Therefore, the entry of items and their exit happen on the same side.
Drive Through operates according to both systems, both LIFO and FIFO, first in first out, with the first product to be stored being the first to be removed. With this, the entry and exit of products happens from different sides, maintaining the organization of the structure and speeding up the withdrawal.
Both increase capacity and improve storage by reducing aisles. As they allow the safe stacking of products, it is possible to offer more space to forklifts that can move easily between structures.
Despite being recommended for all types of operations, it is not for all types of products. Those that have a short duration or quick validity are not benefited by this system, such as fresh foods.
Companies that carry out storage of very varied products, with several SKUs, will also not see benefits due to the actuation systems, which allow entry and removal always the same and not according to need.
In addition, it is important to consider that the floor where the structure will be applied must be level so that its operation finds high performance and offers all the benefits. Therefore, relying on a company capable of identifying the possibilities of the space is essential for the process to happen with excellence.
In addition to developing efficient and resistant structures, Águia Sistemas also implements them considering the needs and specifications of each logistics center.
Before carrying out the installation, our specialists carry out an internal study analyzing the environmental conditions so that the developed project is in line with the reality of the warehouse in question.
